Safety is not only a priority for Baulderstone Hornibrook, it is a core value that underpins the company’s management style and culture. The company promotes the highest standards of industrial safety by:
- Making safety an essential and integral part of management accountability.
- Having every employee and subcontractor accept safety as an individual responsibility and pre-requisite in the planning of all activities.
- Determining specific safety performance targets for all project teams and appropriate managers as part of the overall performance evaluation and review program.
- Carrying out appropriate education and training in safety as an integral part of the Group’s technical training program.
- Using teamwork and critique for problem identification and performance measurement and improvement.
Baulderstone Hornibrook is committed to ensuring a high level of safety on all projects. The potential hazards during construction identified on this project are:
- Adjacent traffic on public roads.
- Construction plant movement and interaction.
- Working on or over water.
- Materials handling using cranes, forklifts and excavators.
- Bridge construction.
- Land piling for bridgework.
All activities that carry potential risks and hazards were identified in risk assessments and control measures have been developed and implemented to manage those risks. The risk management process underpins Baulderstone Hornibrook’s Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation Plan.
Safe Work Procedures have been developed and documented during a Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA) and safe work method statement (SWMS) forms prepared. These forms are developed in consultation with the work crew and in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001 for each construction activity. Safety induction training is provided to all personnel working on the project.
